With Felix Bautista expected to miss most of 2026 after undergoing major shoulder surgery this past August, president of baseball operations Mike Elias has agreed to a two-year deal with two-time All-Star closer Ryan Helsley, according to ESPN. The $28 million contract is pending a physical and features a player opt-out after the 2026 season, according to The Athletic.
The 31-year-old Helsley emerged as one of the game’s best closers with St. Louis with 82 saves, 225 strikeouts, and a 1.83 ERA over 167 2/3 innings from 2022-24.
