The Special Investigations Unit (SIU) says there is no basis to lay charges in a case where a 62-year-old man died while interacting with Hamilton police officers in August.
The man contacted Hamilton police around 7:30 a.m. on Aug. 1 saying he had explosive devices, the SIU said in a news release issued on Friday.
He “demanded” a negotiator come to his home near Barton Street East and Sherman Avenue North, the SIU said.
According to the SIU, Hamilton police’s emergency response unit and a negotiator were deployed, and the residence was contained.
“Negotiations with the complainant took place through the day, until a single gunshot was heard at 3:58 p.m.
