Herzog Park is named after Belfast-born Chaim Herzog, who was raised in Dublin and went on to serve as president of Israel from 1983 to 1993.
Last July, members of Dublin City Council’s Commemorations and Naming Committee recommended to the full council the removal of the Herzog name from the park.
There was only one objection, and councillors were expected to vote on the motion to rename the park today.
However, Lord Mayor Ray McAdam said last night that council chief executive Richard Shakespeare had indicated to him he intends to withdraw a report on the proposal, stating that legislation on the renaming of place names had not been “fully commenced”.
