HALIFAX - Nova Scotia liquor stores are set to sell their remaining stock of U.S. alcohol starting today, but this offer will be available for a limited time. The province has decided to liquidate its inventory of American liquor and will donate the proceeds to charitable organizations.
Premier Tim Houston announced in a recent news release that the province had already purchased the alcohol, and it would be wasteful to let it go unsold. However, he clarified that there are no plans to restock U.S. products after the current inventory is depleted.
The total value of the U.S. alcohol currently in stock is estimated at around $14 million. After accounting for expenses, the province expects to net approximately $4 million from the sale. This amount will be directed towards Feed Nova Scotia and other food-related charities in the upcoming weeks, according to the release.
The decision to remove American alcohol from Nova Scotia liquor stores earlier this spring was a response to tariff threats from U.S. President Donald Trump. Now, as the province moves forward with this sale, it aims to support local charities while clearing out its existing inventory.
