CHARLOTTE, N.C. — Police are searching for the driver os a black Chevrolet Cruze that struck and killed a pedestrian Saturday afternoon in Uptown before fleeing the scene.
Howard Charles Pomnitz III, 56, was pronounced dead at the scene after officers responding to a hit-and-run call found him unresponsive in the road near the 1200 block of North Tryon Street, according to the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department.
The Chevrolet Cruze was last seen traveling north on North Tryon Street after the collision.
Speed did not appear to be a factor in the crash, police said. Toxicology results are pending to determine if impairment was a factor for Pomnitz.
