Western Pennsylvania is being represented by three local teams at the PIAA high school football championships.
Clairton was up first, and the Bears took home the Class 1A title with a dominant 35-3 win over defending champions Bishop Guilfoyle on Thursday. Clairton reached the finals by defeating Laurel for the WPIAL championship and shutting out Greenville 57-0 in the PIAA semifinals. Advertisement
Central Catholic is back in the Class 6A title game. The Vikings beat North Allegheny to win the WPIAL championship and topped Harrisburg 32-14 in the PIAA semifinals to earn a return trip to the finals this year.
