High school students studying for specific career paths can hone their safety skills and connect with local employers through a new program.
Skill Up, from the Sarnia-Lambton Economic Partnership, is offering students in specialist high skills major programs free Bluewater Association for Safety, Environment and Sustainability (BASES) safety training, said Cari Meloche, economic development officer with the partnership.
Twenty five spots are available for students in grades 11 and 12 who plan to work or study locally, she said.
The application deadline recently was extended to Sunday, she said.
Completing the program means three-year certification, she said.
“So, it’s a really great asset for a youth to have as part of their resume.”
