Stratford is officially a Bird-Friendly City.
The Festival City is now one of just 36 cities across Canada to be given that designation by Nature Canada, the country’s oldest nature conservation charity. This year, Stratford was joined by Kingston, Gatineau, Que., and Comox, B.C. as the newest cities to earn that recognition.
“Stratford’s dedication to advocating and protecting its local and migratory birds is inspiring,” said Autumn Jordan, the Bird Friendly City program organizer at Nature Canada.
There are several requirements to be named a bird-friendly city by the charity, including the city being an area where:
Key threats to birds are effectively mitigated;
Nature is restored so native bird populations can thrive;
Residents are actively engaged in monitoring local bird populat
