A former St. Thomas city councillor say she’s looking forward to returning to municipal politics.
Joan Rymal will be sworn in as a councillor at the next meeting of St. Thomas city council on Dec. 8. She was selected by council to fill the vacancy created when Steve Peters resigned in October.
“It’s a wonderful opportunity and I really appreciate the confidence the St. Thomas council has given me in selecting me for this position,” Rymal said Monday.
A retired nurse, Rymal served as a councillor from 2014 to 2022. She said she will not run for re-election in the October 2026 municipal election.
“It’s only a short-term position,” she said. “I’m hopeful I can just slide in and provide a seamless transition for the end of the council term.”
