The University of Georgia’s new School of Nursing now has a leader at the helm. Carolyn K. Clevenger has been named the school’s founding Dean. Clevenger is currently a professor at Emory University’s Nell Hodgson Woodruff School of Nursing and founder and director of Integrated Memory Care at Emory Healthcare.

Clevenger’s research focuses on improving care for people with dementia, as well as educational programs for their families and caretakers. She is set to begin in the new role in January 2026, and will also join the faculty in the Division of Geriatric Medicine.

UGA’s School of Nursing was approved by the University System of Georgia Board of Regents in May and plans to enroll its first class in fall 2027.
