EPPD Bomb Squad checks 'suspicious item' at Municipal Court building

The area around El Paso Municipal Court in Downtown has been blocked off as the El Paso police Bomb Squad checks a "suspicious item" on Monday afternoon, Dec. 1, a police spokeswoman said.

The area surrounding the municipal court building at 810 E. Overland Ave. was closed to traffic at about 2:30 p.m. on Monday as the Bomb Squad responds to the undisclosed item, Detective Judy Oviedo said. The building is also known as the old county archives building.

Some offices at the municipal court building have been evacuated and others are sheltering in place, Oviedo said. There was no further information on the item that police are inspecting.

El Paso Municipal Court deals with Class C misdemeanor cases and parking citations withing the city limits.
