Starbucks has agreed to pay about $35 million to over 15,000 New York City workers to settle claims that the company denied them stable work schedules and unlawfully reduced their hours.
In addition to the worker settlement, Starbucks will pay $3.4 million in civil penalties and has committed to future compliance with New York City’s Fair Workweek law.
What they’re saying: Starbucks spokeswoman Jaci Anderson said the company is committed to following all local laws, but described the law as “notoriously challenging to manage,” noting that “nearly every retailer in the city faces these roadblocks.”
