Iowa election officials will receive direct access to federal immigration records under a legal settlement, resolving disputes that arose in the final weeks of the 2024 election campaign.
Secretary of State Paul Pate announced in late October last year that dozens of noncitizens might have voted in past elections, based on Department of Transportation records showing some who cast ballots later indicated on other forms they were not U.S. citizens.
