BANGOR, Maine (WABI) - December 2 is Giving Tuesday, a now annual tradition of giving back after the Thanksgiving holiday.

There are many organizations you can help, including the Red Cross.

Red Cross helps millions of people nationwide who are facing hardship after a devastating situation.

Caroline King, the executive director of the Northern and Eastern Maine chapter, says the need is great here in the Pine Tree State, especially this time of season.

“There have been hundreds of fires in Maine this year. Usually around the holiday season you see an uptick. People are cooking more, people are using less than ideal heating options so we see an uptick. More home fires mean there is more of a need for the Red Cross,” King said.
