GATESVILLE, Texas (KWTX) — A 65-year-old man was found dead Monday afternoon in his pickup truck that was recovered from the Leon River, according to the Gatesville Police Department.

Police received a call around 1:21 p.m. about a single-vehicle crash in the 100 block of East Leon Street. Another caller reported that a pickup truck was in the Leon River on its side, authorities confirmed.

According to police, officers arrived and attempted to reach the lone occupant, who was found dead.

After the vehicle was recovered from the river, officials pronounced the man dead.

The cause of the crash and the cause of death remain under investigation, police said.
