Facing a Pentagon investigation after Trump accused him of sedition, Democratic Sen. Mark Kelly of Arizona is showing little interest in backing down.
"President Trump is trying to silence me, threatening to kill me for saying what is true. And he sent his Secretary of Defense after me. And it's not going to work," Kelly said.
Some legal experts are raising questions about the Pentagon’s investigation of Kelly, saying the Pentagon is misreading military law to go after Kelly as a retired Navy fighter pilot. Others say Kelly can’t be prosecuted as a member of Congress.
Shortly after the controversial video went viral, Trump accused Kelly and the five other Democratic lawmakers in the video of sedition “punishable by DEATH.”
Kelly excoriated Trump over the rhetoric, saying his family knows the cost of political violence.
"My wife Gabby was shot in the head and nearly died while speaking with her constituents," Kelly said. "The president should understand this, too. He has been the target of political violence himself."
