MADISON (WKOW) — One of the Salvation Army of Dane County's red kettles was stolen on Monday, according to a spokesperson for the organization.
The red kettle was taken around 2 p.m. from Metcalfe's West. A volunteer was ringing a bell near it when someone grabbed it and ran, Steve Heck, the Salvation Army's executive director of philanthropy, told 27 News.
Heck said the donations from the kettle were picked up Monday morning, so it was not as full as it is at times, but added that the store is one of its top locations.
Heck called the situation "unfortunate." He said that no matter how much money was in the kettle, "every dollar goes to people in need."
Madison police were called to investigate. Any tips can be directed to them or Crime Stoppers .
