Christmas is coming, but Kris Knoblauch isn’t into gifting Matt Savoie a spot on a line with Connor McDavid because he’s young and fast and a homegrown talent who was once a first-round draft pick of Buffalo Sabres.
That’s not how it works with the head coach of the Edmonton Oilers.
And truth is, it’s not how it works with McDavid.
If McDavid didn’t want to play with Savoie he wouldn’t be there.
But, he is and even though the dynamic WHL forward, who had 232 points in 150 games, only has seven points in 26 games, he’s a smaller version of the dogged Vasily Podkolzin, who flanks Leon Draisaitl on the second line.
