GREENSBORO, N.C. — A Greensboro man has been charged with failing to properly secure a firearm after a student brought an unloaded handgun to Morehead Elementary School last month, according to police and court records.
Greensboro police say Alejandro Mendez Brito, 37, was arrested on Nov. 24 on a warrant accusing him of violating a state statute requiring gun owners to securely store firearms to prevent children from accessing them.
Authorities began investigating on Nov. 20, after a Morehead Elementary student brought an unloaded handgun to school, prompting an immediate response from school staff and the Greensboro Police Department. The gun was quickly secured, and officials say no one was threatened or harmed.
