The true scale of women rough sleeping in North Tyneside is set to be properly surveyed in the future.
Mayor of North Tyneside Karen Clark told councillors at full council on Thursday last week that work will be undertaken to thoroughly identify the extent of female rough sleeping. This comes following the discovery of disparities on a national scale on the amount of female homelessness.
In 2024, the government’s annual count found 680 rough sleeping women. However, this was countered by last year’s Women’s Rough Sleeping Census, which found over 1,000 across 33 London boroughs and 55 more local authorities across England.
