GREENVILLE, S.C. —
South Carolina's educational workforce is celebrating a downward trend in teacher turnover rates, according to a recent survey published by the Center of Education, Retention, Recruitment and Advancement.
The CERRA report compiles information from 74 of 75 public school districts in the state, recording between the months of September and October.
Districts reported a 32% decrease in teacher vacancies compared to last year, or 706 compared to 1,043. The districts also reported a 5% decrease in departures from last year: 19% retiring from the profession and 25% transferring to another public school district in the state.
Across Anderson, Greenville and Spartanburg counties, 1,031 departures were reported and 61 vacancies.
