NORFOLK, Va. — Drivers are allowed back through Norfolk's Neon District, as construction for the city's Streetscape project has been temporarily paused.

Contractors discovered a "utility issue," namely an electrical vault right where crews wanted to build a sewer line. The electrical vault is located at the intersection of Olney Road and Granby Street, and crews were unable to immediately fix it.

Since they cannot, city leaders said they will let drivers back through as part of an unexpected holiday break.

"The city's goal is to minimize impacts to the businesses and communities as much as possible," said Ha Koehler, Public Affairs Officer with On Point Communications. "Since that section of the road is covered, there was no reason to not let drivers come back through."
