Some smiles are so bright they feel permanent — until the day the world realizes they were borrowed time.
Family members shared that 14-year-old Ja’Nyah Grays died suddenly and unexpectedly after suffering a seizure early one morning in Maryland.
She “tragically did not recover,” her loved ones wrote in a GoFundMe created in her memory.
Her death has left what they described as “a void in our family, our community, and in the hearts of everyone who knew her.”
Grays was known for bringing light wherever she went — a joyful, loving teenager with a smile that didn’t just brighten a room but softened it. Her family remembered her as someone who “loved deeply, laughed often, and brought so much warmth and kindness to those around her.”
She helped people.
She made her friends laugh.
And according to those who knew her best, she had a way of being “her gentle, caring self” that touched lives in ways that will never be forgotten.
Gray's passing has left her family facing emotional devastation that no parent or loved one should ever carry.
It has also left them navigating the unexpected costs of funeral and memorial arrangements. In the fundraiser, organizers wrote that they are “humbly asking for support from our community to help us honor her life and lay her to rest with the love and dignity she deserves.”
“Any amount, big or small, is deeply appreciated,” the family added. “If you are unable to donate, please keep our family in your prayers and share this page. Your kindness means more than words can express.”

“Thank you for loving Ja’Nyah with us. Forever in our hearts.”
