WASHINGTON D.C., DC — President Donald Trump's administration is threatening to pull millions of dollars in federal highway funding for Minnesota over allegedly illegal CDL licenses.
In a press release Monday, the Department of Transportation alleges that one-third of Minnesota’s non-domiciled commercial driver’s licenses (CDL) were issued illegally. A " non-domiciled CDL " is issued when someone applies for a CDL but is not a U.S. citizen or permanent resident.
The Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration said in a letter to Minnesota Gov. Tim Walz that non-domiciled CDLs were given to drivers who didn't verify their lawful presence in the U.S., who were prohibited from holding non-domiciled CDLs, and whose licenses were valid long after their lawful presence in the U.S. expired.
