WICHITA, Kan. (KWCH) - Kansas Attorney General Kris Kobach sent a letter to Wichita Public Schools urging it to tighten policies that affirm students who identify as transgender, saying the district could be at risk to lose federal funding if it doesn’t comply.
Wichita Public Schools received the letter from the attorney general’s office a little less than a month ago, telling the district it had until Jan. 2 to change its “transgender policies” under federal law.
The same day, the Kansas Department of Education also received a letter from the Kansas Attorney General saying it had been notified that some Kansas schools were still in possession of books that talk about sexual orientation and gender identity, also emphasizing parents’ rights to religious freedom and what their children are
