LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WAVE) - Emergency crews have located the body of a person who drove into the Ohio River in downtown Louisville on Saturday.

According to Louisville Metro Police, officers responded to a call at around 7:30 p.m. of a water rescue in the Ohio River near the Great Lawn area of Waterfront Park on Saturday, Nov. 29.

First responders were informed that a tugboat on the river saw a car drive off the waterfront near the Joe’s Crab Shack and into the river.

River traffic was temporarily stopped while LMPD and Louisville Fire sent boats to search the area.

By 9 p.m. that day, crews successfully located the car, but had not found the driver. Due to the swiftness of the currents, the search was suspended that night and couldn’t take place on Sunday.
