New look as town high street open for the first time in 18 months

A town’s high street plagued by works for a year and a half is finally open for business. Works to install new paving, benches, trees, planters, and seats are now finished in much of Birkenhead town centre.

Since early May 2024 , works along Grange Road, Conway Street, and Europa Boulevard have dominated Birkenhead town centre causing traffic delays, disruption for businesses, and a drop in footfall. Now sections of the town centre are finished, with around 80% of the project complete.

The entire project is expected to be done by March 9, 2026 with defects being worked through with contractors, though costs are now expected to rise to £26m.

However large sections of the town centre are now clear . Grange Road, the town’s mai
