CLEVELAND — For 153 days, a team of physicians, nurses, respiratory therapists, and specialists worked around the clock to save Essence's life. Today, she's home with her parents and thriving.
A pregnancy filled with complications
Miya Vidal was just 21 years old when she became pregnant with Essence. At first, everything seemed normal.
"I had a very low-risk pregnancy," Miya said. "Maybe around 20 weeks, the doctors started noticing on the ultrasound scans that something was inconclusive and that they just wanted to run a few more tests."
Around the same time, Miya spoke with a doctor who delivered devastating news.
"Around the same day, I believe I spoke with a doctor that told me there might be some complications further along the pregnancy," Miya recalled. "So they really wanted
