The first snowfall of the year was a doozy, burying Iowa under a heavy blanket of white flakes, a reported 14 inches in Cedar Falls and 10 inches in Bremer County.
A snowstorm started moving across the state Friday and didn’t stop until late Saturday night. It wreaked havoc on weekend shopping and travel plans, with Small Business Saturday taking place under a winter weather advisory, weekend holiday gatherings canceled or rescheduled when visitors couldn’t travel, and college students on Thanksgiving break stranded at home with their families.
Virtually all roads in the state were snow-covered on Saturday. Travel was not advised, and tow bans were in effect in places. As of Sunday morning, the Iowa DOT still reported all major roads in northeast Iowa as completely snow-covered, although
