BOSTON (WWLP) - Massachusetts voters decided to lean away from high-stakes testing as a graduation requirement, but reviews are mixed on the governor's plan for replacement preconditions.

All-party primaries on track to make 2026 ballot question hurdle

The new statewide graduation framework was announced on Monday.

Developed with input from a graduation council, requirements include standardized coursework, end-of-course assessments, and either a capstone or portfolio, and a plan for each student's future, which encompasses preparing for higher education or the workforce and gaining financial literacy skills.

The governor says she sees these new goals as a way to both serve students and maintain the state's top ranking in education.
