A lawsuit against a school administrator filed on behalf of a Pennsylvania trans teen who committed suicide will move forward, a federal judge said in a recent ruling.
A jury should decide whether Richard Rava, vice principal at West Shore Career and Technology Center in Luzerne County, appropriately responded to a report of discriminatory bullying, federal Magistrate Judge Susan Schwab of the Middle District ruled.
15-year-old Adreya Harden’s death came six days after a transphobic bullying incident at the tech center where a classmate verbally berated her and called her by her birth name in class in 2021.
Using a transgender person’s birth name is called “deadnaming” and is used to mock people or invalidate their gender identity.
Rava failed to treat the incident as discriminatory
