DETROIT, MI – Three adorable lion cubs have joined the Detroit Zoo family.
Amirah, a 9-year-old African lioness at the Detroit Zoo, gave birth to three healthy cubs last week, the zoo announced Monday, Dec. 1. The mom and her three cubs are doing well, the zoo said.
“As a first-time mom, she has been wonderfully calm, attentive and nurturing, spending her days bonding closely with her little ones in a cozy, quiet den,” zoo officials said of Amirah, in a Facebook post announcing the births.
The zoo said the cubs were born on Nov. 23 and 24. A fourth cub was born “significantly later than the others” and did not survive, zoo officials said.
