LEXINGTON, Ky. (WKYT) - After announcing the departure of former University of Kentucky football head coach Mark Stoops, Kentucky is set to hire Oregon offensive coordinator Will Stein as the new head coach of the Wildcats, according to On3 Pete Nakos and Chris Low.

Stein is no stranger to the bluegrass state. He was born in Louisville in 1989 and played football at Trinity High School where he won multiple KHSAA state championships. Stein then went on to play quarterback at Louisville from 2008 to 2012.

Both of his parents went to UK and his father played defensive end at Kentucky in the 1980’s under head coach Jerry Claiborne.

Stein began his coaching career as a graduate assistant at Louisville before jumping to Texas a quality control assistant. He then went on to coach high school
