SANDPOINT, Idaho — Schweitzer Mountain Resort opens for the 2025-26 ski season this Wednesday, Dec. 3, following cold temperatures that enabled snowmaking operations, according to resort officials.

The Basin Express lift will operate 9 a.m. to 3:30 p.m., accessing Midway intermediate trail, the resort announced.

No beginner terrain will be open yet.

"With some of the best snowmaking capabilities in the region, we are thrilled to get people sliding on snow this week," said Tom Chasse, Schweitzer's Chief Operating Officer. "Although it's a late start to the season, there's a lot of excitement as we head into another La Niña winter, with plenty of cold temps and fresh snow projected."
