As is usually the case, Ottawa Charge star Emily Clark stayed on the TD Place ice after practice on Monday to have a long, private chat with Carla MacLeod, her coach and friend of 14 years.
Whether they discussed drills, systems, the upcoming opponent or more personal topics, it was evident just how much Clark savours those moments a few minutes later when she met with reporters.
A day earlier, before MacLeod announced in a team release that she had been diagnosed with breast cancer , she dropped the bomb on Clark and her teammates.
“Of course it hit us hard,” said Clark. “But she’s been so brave and courageous, you wouldn’t know (of her illness) because she shows up with the same energy, positivity, and charisma every day. So definitely shocking news, but happy that she had the coura
