SEATTLE — Refugee service providers and immigration attorneys in western Washington said they are seeing a rapid surge in fear and confusion after President Trump issued sweeping statements signaling major shifts in U.S. immigration policy including the possibility of revisiting cases of people already living in the country legally.

The concern began with a Truth Social post in which Trump said he would “permanently pause migration from all third world countries,” “remove anyone who is not a net asset,” and “denaturalize migrants who undermine domestic tranquility.” No formal policy directives have been released, but the rhetoric alone has had an immediate impact on immigrant communities.
