NEW ORLEANS (WVUE) - LSU has its new football coach, but a highly scrutinized buyout system remains.
LSU released coach Lane Kiffin’s term sheet on Monday (Dec. 1). It lays out the details of his seven-year, $91 million contract that could increase if performance bonuses are achieved.
It also includes a buyout clause requiring LSU to pay Kiffin 80 percent of his contract if LSU fires him for on-field performance.
The deal comes on the heels of former LSU coach Brian Kelly’s contractually obligated but highly scrutinized $54 million buyout .
Kelly’s contract required a 90 percent buyout, but included a mitigation clause if Kelly obtained work elsewhere.
Fox 8 showed the contracts to two industry experts, who say LSU took steps to better protect its finances.
