PORTSMOUTH, Va. — A man will serve 13 years in prison after pleading guilty to voluntary manslaughter and other charges in the 2024 death of another man.
Antwain Terry, 46, died on May 11, 2024, after Keonte Jamal Whitfield shot him. Whitfield pleaded guilty in Portsmouth Circuit Court Monday to charges of voluntary manslaughter, possession of a firearm by a convicted violent felon, discharge of a firearm in a public place and reckless handling of a firearm, according to a press release from the office of Commonwealth’s Attorney Stephanie Morales.
Evidence presented in court showed Terry became involved in a verbal altercation with Whitfield’s wife in the area of the 3000 block of George Washington Highway. Terry threatened to physically harm Whitfield’s wife, who then brandished a firea
