SPRINGFIELD, Ill. (WAND) - Lawyers for former Sangamon County sheriff's deputy Sean Grayson have filed a motion for a new trial.

Grayson's attorney, Daniel Fultz, filed a motion for a new trial Nov. 26 with the Sangamon County Circuit Clerk's Office.

The 31-year-old Grayson was found guilty of second-degree murder in October for the shooting death of Sonya Massey last summer.

Following his trial in Peoria, the Illinois Supreme Court later ruled that Grayson's appeal of pre-trial release was "moot."

Grayson will be sentenced Jan. 29 in Springfield. He could face up to 20 years in prison or even probation.
