LAREDO, Tex. (KGNS) - People will have now to show proof of legal residence through a photo ID in the form of a driving license or passport to renew their vehicle registration or to register their new vehicle.
On Nov. 18, during a meeting, the Texas Department of Motor Vehicles informed county tax offices of the change in vehicle registrations and renewals.
“You have to have a valid residence, you have to be able to prove that you’re a U.S. citizen, or that if you’re here from another country that you have a valid passport, that it’s been stamped at the point of entry,” said Patricia Barrera, Tax Assessor Collector for Webb County.
Extension granted until Dec. 5
To help community members ease into the changes, Barrera said her office was able to get an extension for Webb County residen
