FORT INDIANTOWN GAP - Leaders at Fort Indiantown Gap are seeking selection as a new U.S. Army center for integrating drones into modern-day warfighting.
The Army, in a program dubbed “SkyFoundry,” has announced plans to designate three sites as hubs for drone research, development, testing and training — with one of them located at a National Guard base.
Indiantown Gap, in Lebanon County, about 20 miles northeast of Harrisburg, wants to land that mission, and on Monday, its leaders spent time courting U.S. Sen. Dave McCormick’s support .
Pennsylvania National Guard leaders said Monday that selection as part of the Army’s “SkyFoundry” program would help keep the Gap, the state guard’s headquarters, at the cutting edge of 21st-century weaponry.
