A driver was killed in a two-car crash that shut down part of the New York State Thruway in Albany on Monday, Dec. 1, according to a release.
State Police Troop T responded to the serious crash at Exit 24 at 6:45 p.m., where a vehicle entered the northbound lanes from the acceleration ramp and blocked the path of another vehicle, police said. That's when the crash occurred.
The first vehicle held two adults and three minors. The second vehicle carried four adults, according to the release.
The operator of the first vehicle was taken to Albany Medical Center, where they were later pronounced dead, police said. The other adult and the three minors in that vehicle, along with the four adults in the second vehicle, were all transported to Albany Medical Center for treatment.
All northbound traffic was initially diverted off Exit 24. The right lane has since reopened, State Police said.
Troop T and Troop G’s Bureau of Criminal Investigation remained at the scene late Monday, Dec. 1. The name of the deceased is being withheld until next-of-kin are notified.
