SHELBY, Mich. — The lake effect snow slammed Ottawa County Monday afternoon, with conditions worsening throughout the night in Muskegon and Oceana counties to the north.
The heavy snow snapped trees and threatened powerlines.
Before the heavy snow picked up in Shelby, resident Chrystal Shae Russell gassed up the car and got hot chocolate.
“We've just kind of been staying in the house," Russel said. "We decided to make a Wesco run to get some hot chocolate.”
Russell said that the roads in town have been snow-packed for most of the day and has advice for fellow drivers.
“Definitely take it slow before you come to a stop sign, make sure you're ready to actually stop, because otherwise you're sliding right through it,” Russell said.
