One of the first faces Laurel Middle School students in the morning has been spending three decades making strong first impressions.

Laurel guidance secretary Donna Ward was named the 2026 Delaware Educational Support Professional of the Year at a banquet in Dover Monday night.

Laurel Superintendent Shawn Larrimore said beyond working near the front entrance of the school, Ward is a Jill-of-all-trades.

“Whether she is organizing fundraisers, coordinating community events, or coaching field hockey, softball, and cheerleading, Donna pours her whole heart into making Laurel schools a better place for students and staff alike,” Larrimore said.

Ward also has coordinated Laurel's annual Winterfest community event, and is active with Special Olympics.
