Detroit Red Wings prospect Max Plante as expected was among 28 players named Monday to Team USA’s preliminary roster for the 2026 World Junior Championship in St. Paul and Minneapolis, Minn.

Plante, a left wing selected 47 th overall in 2024, is among nine players invited to the training camp who helped the U.S. win its second consecutive World Junior gold medal a year ago. The camp runs from Dec. 15-23 in Duluth, Minn. The final roster is expected to be announced on Dec. 24. The tournament runs from Dec. 26-Jan. 5.

Plante, 19, a sophomore at Minnesota-Duluth, is tied for the NCAA scoring lead with 26 points (with Michigan’s Will Horcoff, son of Red Wings assistant general manager Shawn Horcoff) and is tied for second with 13 goals.
