WARNER ROBINS, Ga. — Four new officers were sworn into the Warner Robins Police Department during a ceremony city leaders described as one more step toward filling staffing shortages.

Officials said they believe the new hires will help ease pressure on patrol shifts.

“We have 15 vacancies to fill for hire at this point in time,” Chief Wayne Fisher said.

Those vacancies include patrol officers, detectives and a booking officer. The department still faces challenges, but Fisher said the additions mark progress in closing the long-standing gap.

In 2022, Warner Robins was more than 40 officers short. During that time, shifts were stretched, overtime increased and patrol units felt the strain. While the new class does not resolve those concerns fully, city leaders said it helps move the d
