Small Business Saturday appears to have been a bust for many in Omaha. It's supposed to be a day to help out businesses owned by your neighbors, but far fewer customers were out this year than in the past.
Business owners compare Small Business Saturday to the Super Bowl, a day when they rely on having a big return—something they didn’t see.
While this weekend’s snowstorm played a role in the underwhelming turnout, some think it’s part of a bigger trend.
At the Old Market Candy Shop, co-owner Jeff Jorgenson says fewer people sampled candy and instead stayed home.
“We had the first snow this weekend and it seems like it always takes Omaha a little while to pull out the winter coats,” said Jorgenson.
