BELOIT, Wis. — Schonella Stewart has made history as the first female chief of the Beloit Police Department. She was officially sworn in during a ceremony at Eaton Chapel on the Beloit College campus.
The chapel was filled with Stewart's family, friends, and colleagues, as well as members of the Beloit community. Kevin Leavy, president of Beloit's City Council, led the ceremony.
"I'm excited about her qualifications, her background in law enforcement," Leavy said. "She's been in every department in a police department. She brings a wealth of knowledge and experience and community involvement."
