JEFFERSON CITY, Tenn. — Mary Spry (Carson) topped 20 points for the fourth straight game, but Catawba’s women’s basketball team lost 69-65 at Carson-Newman on Saturday.

It was the first South Atlantic Conference game for both teams. The Eagles (4-2, 1-0) had a substantial home-court advantage with 502 fans at Holt Fieldhouse.

Spry had 21 points, nine rebounds and four blocks.

Bailee Goodlett (North Rowan) had an excellent game with 13 points, six assists and six rebounds.

Brooklin Ingram scored 12, Kairah Dixon-Booker had 11.

Catawba made 21 of 25 free throws and had a 20-15 edge in the turnover battle.

A seven-point second quarter proved disastrous for the Indians (2-2, 0-1) as they fell behind by 16, but they rallied as close as a two-point deficit.
