ROCKY RIVER, Ohio -- Rectangular Rapid Flashing Beacons (RRFB) are set to be installed to improve pedestrian safety at specified locations throughout Rocky River.

RRFBs consist of two rectangular-shaped yellow indicators, each with lights that flash when activated, to enhance visibility and notification of pedestrians to oncoming motorists.

According to the U.S. Department of Transportation Federal Highway Administration , “The RRFB is applicable to many types of pedestrian crossings, but is particularly effective at multilane crossings with speed limits less than 40 mph.”

In essence, RRFBs are used “to enhance pedestrian conspicuity (the ability to be seen) and increase driver awareness at otherwise uncontrolled, marked crosswalks.”
